Akal is defined by a series of bold, stepped geometric forms arranged across an expansive field of finely woven natural reed. Their repetition creates a powerful architectural rhythm, while the generous negative space allows the material, proportion and craftsmanship to remain fully visible.
Handcrafted by Tuareg artisans using traditional reed-and-leather techniques, each motif is traced in hand-cut leather in deep tobacco and warm auburn tones. The geometry feels remarkably contemporary, yet its character is rooted in a centuries-old visual language shaped by nomadic life in the Sahara.
The restrained palette of sun-warmed sand, cognac and dark earth gives Akal a sculptural presence without overwhelming the space. Subtle irregularities in the weave and linework reveal its handmade origin and make every piece inherently individual.
Akal is heritage expressed through abstraction — elemental, architectural and quietly commanding.

Each and every Tuareg Mat is woven entirely by hand and then washed and dried in the desert air. Current estimated lead times are:
274 × 366 cm and smaller: 30 - 40 weeks
Larger than 274 × 366 cm: 35 - 52 weeks
Since your rug is hand-crafted, there will be natural, beautiful variations in pattern and color. These are sure signs of an authentic rug made just for you. Final sizes and pile heights can vary by up to 5% from what is ordered.
Can I return my rug?
All orders are final and we cannot accept returns. Please ensure all measurements, colors, and design are correct before submitting your order!
Can I cancel my order?
After placing an order, you have until 7:00 PM ET the following day to cancel and get your money back.
What if I don't like what I ordered?
We certainly hope that never happens! We're here to answer whatever questions you've got before you place an order to ensure you're 100% happy with your one-of-a-kind design.
